Tonie Prins founded his microbrewery on the edge of the historic city of Canterbury in 2000 and since then has gained recognition throughout the hop gardens of Kent and beyond for creating outstanding cask and bottled ales.
The hopdaemon, a mischievous sprite, was conjured up after Tonie was walking through a nearby hop garden late one summers evening and it is said ‘he’ adds a little magic and medieval mystery to every brew.
By 2005 Hopdaemon had run out of space at their old site so moved to new premises in the heart of the Hop Gardens of East Kent in Newnham, near Faversham where they brew using their unique strain of yeast, generous amounts of hops, traditional malted barley and ‘pure zymurgy’. Favourite hop varieties in use are Goldings, Challenger and Kentish Cascade, supplied by their friendly ‘Hop Guru’ just down the road from the brewery.
Traditional brewing methods with a ‘New World twist’ are the order of the day and only the purest ingredients are used to create naturally brewed ales of the highest quality.
